💗 Chapter 4 — Identifying and Expressing Feelings

From judging to feeling 🌷

“A mature person can differentiate feelings, creating many shades—like the movements of a symphony.” — Rollo May

đź’ The Cost of Unexpressed Feelings

Silencing what we feel distances us from others and from ourselves. Learning to recognize our emotions is the first step toward genuine connection.

🎨 Expanding Our Emotional Vocabulary

Saying “I feel good” or “bad” isn’t enough. Naming precise emotions such as sad, excited, or confused helps us clearly express what’s truly happening inside us.

🧭 Feelings vs. Thoughts

Expressions like “I feel that nobody understands me” describe ideas, not emotions. In NVC, we distinguish between what we think and what we feel so we can speak from the heart.

đź’ž The Magic of Vulnerability

Showing ourselves as we truly are can be scary—but it also inspires trust. Shared vulnerability is the bridge that transforms distance into empathy.

đź’ˇ When we name our feelings, we open the path to empathy and authenticity.
